My 68 has and backwards reading amp gauge, Been that way since I got it. Some one had done a bunch of work under the dash but all "looks" good -- I have checked the keyed plug to the gauge and it is correct, wires are in the female end correct. I also hooked up another gauge from my spare parts and it does the same. I have looked at the wiring dia. and not sure how this goes into and out of the bulk head / fuse box. Is it possible to have wires reversed somewhere ? Thanks, Bruce in Mt. Airy

Sounds like the wires got crossed. Try changing them where they attach to the gage.

My 76 did this a few times when I would be driven it. I found a wire loose (almost broken off) in the plug connector that went to the altenator. This may not be your problem but it won't hurt to look at the opposite end of the charging trail.

No.....it just happened to be a long, drawn out theory, and....he P/M'ed me aboot something else, anyway.
What I told him were:
On the '68 wiring diagram, there are two wires for the amp gauge: one black, one black w/white stripe. Both of them go to the voltage regulator for the alt. Both of them also have fuse-links in them. I suggested checking these fuse-links, as it could be the source of his problem. He also has a horn issue....there is one wire(dark green) that comes off of the v. regulator, and goes to......... wanna guess
The horns.
