I am in the process on installing an audio system in my 82; in other cars I have had to run the amp ground wires to a good ground spot close to the amps. The amps for the vette will be close to the battery, so can I just run the grounds directly to the negative top post on my Optima Redtop instead of to a typical good metal ground? I don't see why not, but thought I'd better ask first.
Thanks!

I think that it is prefered to run it to the cars steel otherwise you end up with a ground loop thru the battery since there would not be a point where it could disipate. My old amp was ran to a spot under the armrest. That would be what I would do. But Someone else may feel different.

The very best point would be the battery ground post. Then any metal point that has a good ground path back to the battery. When I use a ground point on the frame I wire wheel untill it is clean and shiney and then after making the connection I put some paint on it for anti-corrosion.
