I got some great advice and diagrams from the forum members.
So now I am going with a 120 amp alternator on my 68 doing away with the external regulator.
I will beef up the wiring to the alternator with a 6 gauge wire and run this to a 150 amp ANL fuse and holder and then run the 6 gauge wire onto the starter lug where the cable from the battery comes in.
This gives a little extra amps from the alternator, but still will blow if there is a problem rather than burning the car down.
Any problems with this set up??

A little overkill, maybe(better safe than sorry, right?), but I don't see there being any problems with it set up like that. Thumbs Up

I put a 160 amp on my 68 that puts out `14V at 1000rpm because of the 5spd . The engine was running at such a low rpm most of the time the battery wouldn't charge. If you have fans , radio, amps etc you'll be happy with the extra juice.
