Can anyone id the part below? What is it and where does it mount? It was laying loose inside the driver's door of my '81(wires attached).
I tried to apply power and ground to the blades at the black plug but nothing happened. I was looking for the door lock actuator.

Steve's correct.
That is what holds the key cylinder in the door, and the switch part activates the alarm, plus, if someone tries to remove the lock cylinder from the door while trying to steal the car, the alarm will sound. At least that's how it's supposed to werk!
If it was laying loose, what the heck is holding your lock in?

Yep, that's it alright. Thanx Steve.
I suppose it clips into a groove in the doorlock cylinder, right? In order to, as Adam says, hold the lock in place. I can understand that. Of course something is holding the lock in place now. Perhaps another clip with or without the anti-theft device switch minus the wires.
So does this switch operate like a power door lock actuator, or is it a type of position sensor?
Many more questions now. I can't find a good illustration of it so I guess I'll tear in to the passenger door and see what it looks like over there. Maybe I'll get lucky and that side will be in tack.

First, try a larger font! I can barely read that!
Yes, that switch is just basically an "on-off" switch. There should be power on one side of it when off, and both sides when on.
The best thing you can do is try to locate and purchase a factory service manual, and an AIM(Assembly Instruction Manual)...these two things will give you all you need to find where things go, and how they work. And, of course, we're all here for ya, too!

I sorta like that font myself, but then too, print seems to be getting smaller these days.
I have the factory shop manual. I'll check it out further. Thanx for the help Joel.
