Whelp...I found the back-up light cables....one of the PO's just cut em off...snip snip nice and neat....dirty little man....hate him hate him hate him!! hehe sorry. ANYWAY...I need to know the volt/wattage specs on the back-ups lights so that when I bubba rig something for temporary purpose of passing inspection I don't get over powered lights and fry the whole system. I hope to buy them tomorrow but my SHop Manual doesn't give the real nitty gritty on the lights...I hope someone knows! =)

Normand,
Those diagrams are definatly helpful(found the switch) but I still need to know what bulbs were there and what wattage/voltage in the 75 so that I don't fry the electrical...even GM part numbers would be helpful! =)

I dont know if they are the same, but my 74 uses 12volt, standard 1157 bulbs. I just replaced all the bulbs when I put my new bumper on. That is what was there and they do work. However, if it is just a backup light, it is probably a single contact, 12 volt, 1156 bulb. If you look at the socket, you will be able to tell if it is a single or double contact bulb. |hammer|

From my 73 owners manual, BU lights are #1156, 21 candle power, no mention of wattage, but it is a 25 amp fuse that also supplies the power window relay and turn signals. The parking and tail lights and side marker lights are on a 20 amp fuse. Joe

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.

Rick,

Which side of the switch was the wire cut? If it was on the hot side, the switch is probably bad, and stuck in the on position. Bubba probably cut the wire rather than replace the backup light switch. My guess is that you need a new switch...
Make sure you have a good fuse in the fuse panel. My book shows a 20Amp for
"turn sig/back up"
To check it,,,

Get under the car, and have someone watch the backup lights. With the ignition turned on with engine off, strip the wires, check them with a meter to see if one of them is hot, The one going to the switch from the wire bundel should be hot, if it is hot , then touch them together. If they don't work at all in any gear or, If they work in all gears, the switch is bad or mis adjusted. It should only work in reverse, unless it is adjusted wrong. Maybe he didn't like backup lights. |headscratch| You have to watch some of those BUBBAS
I hope I didn't confuse you...

|sad| |sad|

My book shows a dark blue or a pink/white wire feeds it, and a lt green goes to the backup lights.
I have a Chilton's manual. What kind do you have??

Glen,
you confused the heck out of me! |biggrin| I have an MBI(something like that) manual, its pretty good I suppose...very detailed wiring, but no mention of WHERE in/on/around the car I will find the wire, so its a lot of looking and prying and digging! I'm going to find a digi cam in the next few days and take a couple shots up under the dash so maybe someone can help me once I've got them posted, since I'm a relative rookie at this! Thanx for the explanation. I printed it just in case one of my friends can read it! Rotors should be in tomorrow night and Thursday one of my mechanic friends will be over to help install. and then mufflers and power assist valve will be pro-fixed asap after that...might be just a few more days(week or 2) before its out on the road. Very exciting! Does the Chilton's have a list of what amp fuses go where? Bubba pulled one out at put in a bolt and my manual only says what the fuses are for....its the one for....inst lps whatever that is....i'm pretty sure the rest are good...but it'll be at least a day before I'm in the garage again...just wasp sprayed a big ass nasty ugly spider with hundreds of babies...ewwwwww
anyway....the whole garage reeks of wasp spray...

Scot,

Sorry that I confused you. You said you found the switch, do a little checking, and and I'm sure you can figure it out.

Do you have a 4 speed?
Later,
Glen |smile|

Scot,
Quote " inst lps whatever that is" stands for instrament lamps. The bulbs that light up your instraments on the dash board. There are probably some other abreviations on that panel that won't make sense to you. Just post what you don't know, someone will answer.
