1) the braided wires have a ground coming off the braid...help with radio interference? where do you ground them...do you need a spark plug heatshield for ground?

2)what type of distributor does a 72 BB take...and linked to above question...need special cover to ground the wires?

3)heard of adding a 1/2 quart of transmission fluid to oil 2-3 before oil change to help clean????

Thanks...in advance...

1) Yes, for the 1972 big block Corvette, the original braided plug wires do have have two ground connections on each wire end (and are designed to reduce radio inteference). One end connects to one of several valve cover bolts and the other end connects to one of two distributor shield supports (left support for left engine bank and right support for right engine bank). A spark plug heat shield is not needed for a ground on the 1972 big block. A factory assemply instruction manual (available from various Corvette parts suppliers), provides details on the wire routing and ground attachement points.

2)The distributor for the 1972 big block, is a single point type (with a mechanical tachometer drive gearset). A chrome shield to block radio interference (held by two metal shield supports mounted to the intake manifold) allows the correct braided spark plug wires to be properly routed (and grounded on one end of the wire) via the shield supports.

3)This mechanic's tip has been around for many years. However, I feel if one uses good quality oil and changes the oil on a regular basis, this and other types of cleaners are un-necessary and could even be detrimental to an engine.
