Vette(s): 1976 Brown with Buckskin Interior. I bought her on 9/15/03 and just received it on OCT 1st 2003!! It needs interior work, and some things under the hood, but I am so excited! Just waiting for Summer of 2004 to totally show it off.
I had to cut off my antenna to cover my car - now I wanna replace it with an electric antenna. Can anyone share their experiences? Problems doing it? I alredy know the exhaust is in the way, but can anyone enlightin me on the subject????

I bought an aftermarket one from the local parts store. It wasnt hard to install other than the exhaust and rear tire. Be sure to use the proper rubber grommet(matching your orignal) when installing the new one. Aftermarket generic antennas come with about 5 or 6 different grommet options.
Good Luck

I also understand when you install the new unit, to buy heat wrap and secure it around the antenna motor due to its being close to the muffler.
This is one place not to buy a cheap imported one they last about a year if that.
get a good one and one that is fully automatic meaning it goes up and down with turning on and off the stereo like a factory one does,
Cheers, T.

Hi,
Just replaced my standard antenna for the same reason..They are supposed to unscrew but with age they get frozen in. I thought about the electric antenna but elected to go with the fixed. Marked the spot on the car cover and put a grommet there. The new antenna unscrews very easily.. I did not have to remove the muffler either, but I did remove the drivers seat for installation of the new antenna wire..

What's the big deal with the fixed one? I measured off the covver and put a hole in it the size of a pencil. Most of our cars sit in the garage with the cover on any way.
Cuz man,
Power antennas are all cool and high tech
I did think most people just poked a little hole in their car covers,
But now I see where I missed the boat I drive my vette any time I leave,
If I just left it at home covered I wouldn't always be having to fix something....
Cheers all and have a super Halloween....
Charlie.

Anything, but Stock and more mods to come!
SSBC Force 10 Brakes, 3.73, TH350, 355 CID, Rack and Pinion, Vette Brakes suspension front and rear.
If you want to keep the antenna from freezing up when screwed together, just apply a little Anti Seize mixed with some silicone grease and use a cue tip to apply it to the the treads. You wont have a problem with it sticking. However you will want to check it from time to time to ensure its not vibrating its way loose.
