Vette(s): 1978 Corvette Light Blue Pulled from the swamps of Miami! Its a driver and back on the road!
Ok baby steps!
Today on my back again looking up at the steering column, removing all electrical connections to the cruise control parts.  Cleaning and removing any rust, dirt etc... all back together and test the engage and disarm connections at the transducer and I have current to them finally.

Ok so I take a test drive and try to engage the cruise and no luck.  I am seeing a big jump on the bat/amp meter when the cruise is going through the engage section with the button.  Is this normal, I can see a bump but this is a major neddle movement as its going to or past engage?

Short drive but at one point the cruise engage and must been to accelerate as she took off...brake stop the command but then unable to re-engage.....

Just checked that the ground strap is attached to the transducer but not sure of the other end..

Any more electric suggestions before I get to checking the vacuum parts???The fact that it did engage at one point makes me feel the electric is maybe ok but the vacuum is not steady.

Will report back sonce I have time to check the vacuum.

One curious thing I did discover right or wrong and maybe someone with a 78 can check their's??
The engage/disengage white/brown wire was wrapped with electrical tape to the vacuum line that
goes in through the firewall to the top of the break stop. Is this normal for the wire to be taped to the vacuum hose...also the brown i believe resistant wire was long and bundled under the tape?

The diagrams show a resistant wire going along the left fender panel towards the front of the car but cannot find a pictureof this is it a single wire inside a plastic cover and whre does it go???

It looked like someone bundled mine up with the vacuum hose and then taped it to it,no sign of any resiter whire elsewhere.

sorry for the length but just trying to return BB78 from the swamps to the road.

Any input is greatly apreciatedelectric or vacuum! BB78Cry

OK with  just some free time you can get something done, I have some success with the cruise control. Removed all the electrical connections and sanded  down and cleaned and then today I removed all the vac lines and check them according to a prior post from england on the cruise control system, good review and educational... OK I will get on with it... The cruise control is engaging...BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT it engages and then takes off full throttle it's nice but not exactly what I'm looking for.  OK so I'm thinking too much vacuum and the diafram with the throttle linkage is moving too much or an adjustment on the linkage itself... but still it's advancing not staying at the point/speed at which engage. I research more but any suggestions on where I stand now??? BB78

Yep, been here done that. Punch the Cruise button and afterburner kicks in !!

I expect your problem to be the same as mine...  inside the transducer are two disks, face to face.

One is continuously driven via the speedo cable from the gearbox. In a properly working system this disk "influences" the second disk to try and rotate, but the second disk rotates against a spring, and so will only turn so far - ie through an arc until the spring pressure stops it from going any further. The faster you go, the faster the first disk spins, the greater the arc the second disk achieves. In my afterburner system years of gunk had got between the two disks so that the second disc was always being driven to its maximum possible arc irrespective of speed, due to the high level of gunk friction between them.

The fix is to dismantle the transducer and and clean. I have a pdf set of instructions on this is you would like it, email me at cdowns@clear.net.nz and I will send it to you.

Cheers

Kiwi Chris

Hi guys,
Sorry to bust in on your post but just got back from the gathering in Bend ORThumbs Up, and my right right foot is asleep from holding the accelerator. I saw your post CeeDee & Babyblue 78 about the cruise control. I have been working for  about 3 months trying to make mine work on my 82. Mine does the same exact thing.  CeeDee could you please send me that pdf file also also. Thanks
My email is m_lower@msn.com

Thanks CeeDee I have just read the second edition and it is excellent. I think I will wait until the fall to get started on it but maybe not.  I appreciate all your help and I think one of the steps will be my problem with my rocket takeoff!  Thanks again. BB78Smile

Unfortunately I sold everything in a milk crate at a swap meet once I went the "resto-rod" route with the Lukester...one of these days, I'll look into an after-market set up...
