I'm restoring a 1982 and had to replace some of the gauges in the center cluster.  While I had the Bezel out I noticed the dash light bulb housing was melted and the bulb and bulb socket were missing.  I've found a new housing and socket but was wondering how to make the light functional.  Does it require some type of printed circuit to connect it?  I can find nothing in the assembly manual or the GM shop repair manual.

Are you referring to the single light that sits at the very top of the gauge cluster or the numerous small bulbs on the cluster itself?

Yes,  I'm talking about the single light at the very top all by itself.  It should shine down toward the ashtray and console controls.

The light housing should have two wires and a connector attached to it.  At the moment Im not sure where the connector connects to the vehicle wiring but it appears to be an in-line connector.  I will look when I get home to see if I can find the wiring it connects to.  Sometimes the special light bulbs for this housing is replaced with a standard dash light which will melt the housing.

Thanks, I have the wire harness just like the picture, but when I insert the bulb housing the metal tips on the bulb housing don't seem to connect to anything except plastic and that is why I was wondering if the bulb housing I purchased at Carisle was missing something that I didn't realize.  Also, I had heard that the wrong bulb will melt the housing.  Do you know what the correct designation for the replacement bulb is or what the correct wattage should be.

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
The two wire that screw on to the center console have big washers on them and the light bulb housing makes contact with them.  I used the same light as the rest of the bulbs in the console.  So I would be interested in the correct bulb number for that also.

Thanks again for your help! If I find the correct designation I'll post it. Have a good Holiday!

HERE is the proper bulb for the light fixture.  I used Ecklers for the link but must of the corvette vendors have them. The description of the bulb is a little misleading but this is the correct bulb.
