I purchased a 1981 corvette I'm trying to restore myself.  The motor has been changed.  It is a 1976 motor carborated with no computer.  The engine harness has also been changed to a 1976.  The engine runs, but my problem is the previous owner did the work.  He also cut the dash harness.  The car has power windows & locks, power antenna and rear defroster.  It has an automatic transmission.  The das gauge cluster has oil pressure and oil temperature, no clock.  I need to find out what year dash harness I could use, other than a 1981 with computer.  I would like my gauges to work & inside lights, etc.  I don't care about seat belt interlocks or anti-theft.  I would also like to know if any other year speedometer would interchange with mine because mine only goes to 85 mph.  Any help or information would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you've got a lemon.  I hope you didn't pay too much for it?  As far as the resto goes, it depends how far you want to go.  Do you want to get the engine back to '81 standards?  I'm sure your licencing body in PA won't allow you to put anything on the road that isn't kosher.  I would suggest going totally 1981 with anything you put in the car.

First step though, make sure you have a genuine 1981 car by checking VIN and ALL the other numbers you can find on the car.  There are a few links on this site that will show you where all the numbers are and what they mean.

Have fun.
