Last year I had the vette out at night an noticed how dim the headlight were. So I decided to take a closer look at them before the trip to Carson City. I do want to be able to see where I am going if I have to drive at night
. I pulled the lights and they look like the original, all are GE 4000 and 4001 which are not halogen. So tomorrow I guess I will be shopping for new H5001 and H5006 lights. The connector could use a cleaning too which might help some.

I was driving home Friday evening and noticed mine were dim too. I think I'll go out and pick up some halogens too. 
Only a suggestion but many people over look headlamp aim.
No doubt the the old lamps have degraded output but properly aiming the lamps after installation will help as well.
I have attached a link that might help explain how to properly aim the light pattern. We would be looking at Mechanically Aimed Headlamps.
If this info doesn't help let me know and I can post a copy of the SAE recommended practice for headlamp aim.

most people are used to the brightness of all the new lights out. connections can cause a lot of the problems. make sure they are clean and also check that the ground wire is clean. a bad ground can also cause dim lights.

Gold MemberI had a problem with my lights being not only dim, but intermittent! I just cleaned all of the contacts, and Bada Bing - plenty o' photons to light the way!
Dirty, loose connections and bad grounding are
the number one cause of "dim" headlights. No doubt halogen bulbs will
help but even they will not produce their best results if the
connections and ground are less than optimum.
