Hey Folks,
Does anyone have a drawing, schematic, picture, etc. showing how the dimmer switch is fastened onto the steering column on an '82 model?
I realized yesterday that my switch was just dangling below the steering column (found it out when I discovered I couldn't turn my bright lights on at an inspection station!
) and I'm not sure how it all fastens back!
Help!

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
Ok, I have an 82 just went outside and the only thing I have on the Column is Tilt control and cruise control. I presume you were talking about light dimmer switch and mine is on the dash. What do I not know about what you guys are talking about?

The headlight dimmer is part of the turn signal stalk, but the actual switch is down on the lower part of the column. Are you saying the actual switch is hanging, or the turn signal stalk?
If it's the actual switch, it bolts up pretty much the same way the ignition switch does, with a couple of small screws that hold it to the column, and then there is the wire linkage that comes down from the stalk to push on the switch contacts for hi/lo beams.
I don't think I have any graphics of that, but I bet Bob(rraider1) does!

My dimmer switch is part of the stalk on the column that is the lane control. You pull the switch towards you, On the right side of the steering wheel as you are sitting in the car. You say that your dimmer switch is on the dash???????? Like Joel says the actual switch is low on the steering column.

Are you talking about the switch that controls the lighting on your instrument panel or the switch that controls your headlights????

Methinks Gilbert is talking aboot the dash light dimmer...not the headlight dimmer.
The headlight dimmer has been the turn signal stalk since '77...pull it toward you to work it.

You can always count on Bob to find the graphics....he's a flipping savant!
It looks like, in the graphic, that the ignition switch has studded screws/bolts that hold it to the column, and then the dimmer switch fits onto the studs, with nuts holding it on...
