Haven't posted in a while and actually Redwingvette may have answered this about 5 years ago but here goes again.. I have a disconnected 2 wire flat connector with one green and one tan wire just hanging near the a/c box but is not part of the a/c as it is all accounted for. The other end of the green wire has 1 single connector also just hanging there. It is coming from the dash with the big red and black wire going to the starter and an orange wire which is also disconnected which I think goes to a disconnected alarm.. What is this wire and where did it go?? Confused Attached are pics Thanks

While I'm here I have one other dumb ? My ammeter wire is disconnected and taped up at the alternator by a previous owner. There is one tap left unplugged on the "one wire" alternator. Can I just plug it in there w/o blowing something up? . I tried it once and got a spark b/c I hadn't disconnected the battery ..thx also Embarrassed

I have a 72, but I think your green & tan wires are for the Evaporator Thermal Switch for your Air Conditioning. I'm no help with your 2nd question. Hope I've helped you.

Yeah...looks like the thermal "fuse" connector for the A/C compressor.
Not sure either on the alternator question. I'm not clear on what connector/wire is disconnected...
What color wire is it that is un-hooked?

you guys are close, my 72 is a little different, my two wire conn. with gr.&tan wire goes to the ambient switch on the heater boxand its a square conn. not a flat connector, and the thermal limiter connector is a three wire flat conn. with the green center wire goes to the single prong super heater switch on the back of the compressor, maybe 73 doesn,t have a ambient switch or a SH switch on the compressor, or someone changed something, Eklers says 72-73 are the same?? anips2009-08-28 08:35:25

They say the mind is the first to go...! I had asked the very same question..I looked up my old posts.. Redwingvette said he had the same connector. it doesn't go to A/C at all..My A/C works and all connections are there. It is an emissions thing:

Redwingvette said: They use to go to the thermal swict that was mounted into the head. It didn't let the distributor advace until the motor was warm. It was an emissions thing. Mine has been disconected for ever.

Dave, I think Brian is correct. There sholud be a sensor/sending unit in the pass. side head for the TCS(Transmission Controled Spark) system. It would only allow vac. to the dist in 3rd & 4th(in '73), and once the engine was warmed. The sensor in the head gave the temp info, and the switch on the trans gave the gear info. In '73, there was also a 20 sec. "delay" on the electrical signal.
I'll try to get a pic of my sensor plug/wires, as well as the press. switch for the A/C. Those wire have to be for one or the other.

The wire from the ammeter that is disconnected at the Alternator is black with a white tracer. I want to make sure I don't fry anything if I connect it back up to the alternator..thanks
