Vette(s): 1976 Brown with Buckskin Interior. I bought her on 9/15/03 and just received it on OCT 1st 2003!! It needs interior work, and some things under the hood, but I am so excited! Just waiting for Summer of 2004 to totally show it off.
Is on all the time. Can anyone enlighten me on how to solve this one??

Fix it? or turn it off?
To turn it off, there are two plunger type switches at the lower front of the door frame, you can simply push them in and the light will turn off. Have one door closed and push in the other, if it turns off with some combo pushed in your doors are slightly out of alignment(I'd not reccomend changing the alignment though) and a shim or two should allow the plunger to be depressed and the light to turn off.
If no plunger pushing turns off the light(aka driver pushed pass closed, pass pushed driver closed or both pushed) then there is a wiring fault that I can't begin to help with, but I would reccomend checking grounds!

Let us know how it turns out too!

If the door ajar switch adjustment is the problem shims are not necessary. The switch is adjustable. Take a pair of pliers and slightly pull the shaft of the switch out. Gently close the door and it will self adjust. Finally, place a drop of super glue on the shaft (not the plunger). That will keep it from slipping back in.

There was another thread a few pages back that talks about being able to unscrew the plunger and extend it that way. Not sure the link right off.

I had the same problem with 72. The switchs are still available from your chevy dealer for about 10 bucks. It's a simple task to replace them if they are bad. Three wires go to the back of each one. Back off the nut that holds them on and you can pull out the switch to check the wires, or replace if necessary
