Topic: Electric Fan conversion
in Forum: C3 Electrical

Hey there Vette Fans
Questions for the shark tank:
I am converting to an electric fan set up with my new aluminum radiator. Is the Painless wiring kit the best way to go? A friend mentioned that you could actually buy the fan relay, termostat swtich, etc for a fraction of the cost - but I guess it is no longer "painless".
Also, would like to track down an up to date alternator bracket with a turnbuckle adjustment (don't know what those are actually called). Saw some from March but they are all "Outboard". I believe our wheels need an inboard. Correct?
Any comments, suggestions, tips etc are greatly appreciated.
Thanks all,
Luke

Seems like, tho, you could use a set-up from the '81-82 Vettes. They had 'lectrical fans from the fact. Just an idea.

Try looking at Street & Performance, or Zoops. I have the Zoops on mine and you will need the outboard. The inboard puts the A/C compressor and the Alt. above the intake manifold. That makes it to high for the hood clearance. I have both. Inboard on my Street Rod, and outboard on my 71. If you use both A/C and Alt. on your vette you will have to change over to a Sanden 501 compressor. That's what I'm having trouble with now, but I think I have it solved finally. I had to make up a fitting by cutting two fittings in half and tig welding them back together to get the one I need. I needed a #12 o-ring on one end to fit in a 1/2" hose. They don't make a 180 deg. fitting to do this. Hope it works. Kind of cost me $200. to get it made. Speeding ticket on way to Rapid City. Went 13 yrs. without one of those. And fuel.

So.......you're saying your A/C got you a speeding tic?!!! I can hear it now...."Sorry, Officer, my A/C parts were speeding, and I was just trying to keep up..."
