i have a few questions and since they are all about electrical issues i fire them in one thread :)
some questions might be a little weird.. but because after i bought the car i took it completely apart for a restoration.. so with some things i hsave no idea how it and if it function right ;
question1 :
1) i don't know if my rearwindow defrost switch works ok.

the switch always return to the middle position when i "switch to on " and to " off" position is that normal and if that is so.. how how do i know the defrost is on ?
question 2:
the clock.... something i do know is that my clock is not running.. is there a way to open the clock without destroying?

btw.. when trying to test the clock i noticed there is only one wire connected........... is my assumption right that the grounding goes through the metal around the clock?
question 3:
the switch for blower of the heating has 3 or 4 positions but mine only works in the high position... does the switch has an internal resitor for the lower speeds or or has that to be found somewhere else
and final .. for now :)
what is this thing for.. it sits in the heaterhouse :

thank you

The rear defrost switch is acting normal...it will return to the neutral position when you release it. The little light will illuminate to show the defrost is activated. It will turn off after a set time period.
The clock...well, big surprise it doesn't work. That's certainly normal for its age. The best thing to do is buy either a quartz rebuild kit from Corvette Central, Eckler's, Corvette America, or other supplier (some are sponsors of this site), and rebuild the clock according to the instructions. The other option, depending on how handy you are, is to buy a completely new reproduction clock with quartz movement from the same suppliers. Either way, it's not difficult at all.
Not sure what to say about the blower motor problem.

Yep, normal switch.
Yes the clock can be repaired, see a past post on how to do this, or buy a new one. Yes, it is grounded through it's metal mounting.
The blower uses a high speed blower relay that supplies fairly direct battery power for highspeed operation. If one relay contact is bad it can cause the blower to only work on high speed, or low speeds. The other posibility is the blower resistor, or a bad switch.
That thing is the blower resistors.
