Vette(s): 1971 Corvette Stingray - 350 cu - Automatic 3 speed.
My Left/Right lamps (fiber optic) indicator lights along with the Left/Right Tail lamps & license plate light indicator just under the shift stick are not working at all! Is this a common problem with Corvettes this old? I'm guessing the life span on fiber optics from that era wasn't very long... Is this an easy fix? Or a pain and have to tear apart the instrument panel? Your thoughts? Thanks!

Hi Ed!! Welcome to the club!! The fiber optics cables are actually pretty strong and can't wear out. If you have stock tail lights you can see the small button like spot inside next to each bulb if you take the lenses cover off like you were changing the bulb. If they are stock and have that button then they may have fallen out of the sockets in the console. It's easy to remove by removing the shift knob and the 4 screws holding it on the center console. If they are in and don't light up at all then someone may have been in there and broke the line somewhere. The optic lines are in the factory harness and can be hard to trace. There are replacement parts available thru Lectric Limited. One point though is that they are not very bright at all. I can barely see mine during the day. Might need new bulbs back there. I use the the 2357 bulbs and not the 1157. They are brighter..
