Ok, received the new dash harness last week. Side note, I bought it from Wilcox for 420$. When I got it it was marked Lectric Limited, I checked their website, and they sell it for 499$. Strange how that works.
Anyway, after much cursing
head scratching
and just overall grief, I finally got it out today. Whoever owned this car before me needs to have their head exmained for making some of the "repairs" I found to this wiring harness. Even though it's only high 40's windy and raining off and on i'm going to start putting the new one in tomorrow, and no, I don't have a garage.
I've done just about everything you can do under a hood, but wiring is a whole new arena for me. I should call AT&T and see what it would cost to have a hotline installed to KStyers place.
I'll update as I go.

Hey matt,
I feel for you. I didn't get a new harness, but took the whole dash apart and found all kinds of crazy wiring short cuts by previous owners. I've been under there for a week now, and I just starting to get it back to normal.
Good luck with your install.

Ask away guys. There was bound to be some repairs after all these years. Some repairs are good, some look like a bowl of noodles attacked by bear traps and tape monsters.
New harnesses really are not bad. It's just a matter of routing them in the correct place. Then the leads are where they need to be. After that connection and plug ins are fairly easy.

DITTOS I cannot believe some of the debauchery performed on these cars.
I pulled my dash to fix the speedo and found cut soldered taped wires and a couple of melted power window connections! I feel for you.
As a side note there is a manufacturer called M. Parker Autoworks, Inc. that will rebuild your original dash harness for about $250.00. That saves over $150!
They are located in Bellmawr, New Jersey
Their number is 856-933-0801.
They do not rebuild all harnesses just the dash harness if it is not too bad. They will also supply any new harness to GM specs but they are a little on the pricey side.
I am sending mine in for repair this week and will let everyone know how their work is.

I put a new dash harness in my 72 about a year ago. While it's not hard, just time consuming, I WOULDN"T DO IT without having a wiring diagram and an assembly manual on hand. That way if your not sure you can look up the color coded wire to get them correct.
Also, be sure to make good ground connections. If you have lights on when they shouldn't be, or parts of lighting that go on and off, it's usually a ground problem. Clean the contact area good and make a tight connection.

I'm actually at a sticking point. While I had the dash and harness out I realized I also need a new power window harness. So, I am waiting for a new pw harness before I put everything back together. I'll update. Thanks for the tips everyone.

I understand the fustration of working on something that others messed up before you. I had to just about rewire my 75, but the strange thing about it is there was nothing wrong with the original harness, the "past owner(s)" ran new wire. I ripped out the new wiring, went back to the old and have no more problems.
