KStyer is already helping me in the fusible link area. I do not have headlights and the air compressor is now not kicking in. Ken had advised me previously that the fusible link is probably the problem with the headlights, as it looks to be burned almost in half. There is also a black heavy guage wire that has come off at the starter solenoid area. Looks like it had a connector on it. Where would this go to ? These are the only two areas I need to finish up the mechanical part of this 79 L82. Is this my air compressor problem also ? The black wire looks like it may have been hooked to the solenoid.
Thanks !

Isn't black typically a ground? Where is the other end of the wire? At my starter there is on from the frame to the block. The exception being my hot from the battery, if that was the case for you, obviously nothing would work.

Dave - Thanks for reply. Looks like coming down from above. Has to be ground. I did not hook up the black to check the AC, but did ground it to check the headlights, and no luck there.

The heavy gauge part is a bit unclear. Can you get close to a number? The one I'm talking about is about the same size as a battery cable. (Engine to frame)
There is a black to the satrter solenoid, but it's a smaller gauge , like a 12 0r 14.

Black is same guage as the red fusible link. Not a cable. It has a broken electrical connector on it, type of connector that would slip over a stud, then bolted down. I will get back under there soon, I am working on boat also. It is much easier. Thanks for replys, I appreciate it.

The starter on my '76 has 4 connections, 5 wires. Large cable from battery and double, small, orange and red wires go to the large +Bat terminal. Single 12ga violet wire goes to sol small terminal. Small, 12-14ga black has a large ring terminal on it and is grounded to one of the starter mounting bolts.
Does that help?

Does that help?

Thanks. Maroon 76 Vette and the blue 69 - 427 tri-power is the best I have seen in a while. I will get back under and re-connect - fix red fuse link, and black that is loose to ground. The black is same guage as the red fuse link.Should take care of the headlights and air compressor to kick in ?
Thanks !
Thanks !
Vince, make those repairs, and see what happens. Let us know and we can go from there, if anything else is needed. That might be all of it. There may be another problem that caused the link to blow.
Ken - Thanks, and thanks to blue 427 and maroon 76, both very nice machines. I will get back under next week. I will fix red fuse link, connect the black to ground, and go from there. Could this be my compressor not kicking in also? Turning air on, the familiar "click" is not there.
Thanks,
Vince
