I found this connector loose near my starter yesterday. I did replace my starter this summer. I didn't see it then. The car has run fine the last time I took it out in the late fall. It seems to be attached to the wiring harness that goes into the starter.

Does anyone recongize this connector or where it should go? I'm looking at wiring diagrams and I just don't see it.

The only thing I can think of down by the starter would be the knock sensor, but that looks like there are more than just one/two wires in the harness. The pic is a bit blurry for these antique eyeballs..
Is there a hole, or eyelet on that terminal?

There is a hole on the end facing down.

Let's see what Dan comes up with.

Looks like the wires are black, which would suggest they are grounds. With the hole/eyelet on the terminal, it probably should bolt to the engine block. Check to see if there is power(12v+) there with the key on, and also with the key in the "start" position. If there is no power, they are ground wires, and need to be connected to provide grounds for whatever system they are for. I can check the wiring diagrams, and see if anything looks comparable...

Dan,  Joel is correct, what you have there is the wiring for the "detonation sensor"  the sensor screws into the engine block behind the starter and under a  "V" shaped sheet metal sheild.  The sensor has one pin sticking out of the center of it.  To reattach the wiring, press in on the sides of the metal casing of the connector, this will allow you to push the connector onto the sensor, when you release the metal casing, the sides spring out and hold the connector in place. Sorry it took so long to get you an answer but unfortunately, work comes first. Crossfire19822009-02-23 14:49:38

Thank you!! I believe that this is the answer.

Once there is a little more light in the garage, and it is well above 32 degrees out, I'll get back under there and try to re-attach.

Never doubt the power of the C3VR!!
