Took the car out to put gas in it and afterwards, the gauge needle started to jump from full to about quarter marks on the gauge. Anyone know how or what I can do for this.......any help on this will be helpful.
Thanks
Rick

Were you having any issue with the gauge before this one time of putting fuel in? If not, I would suspect the sending unit in the tank. It may have a small break in the winding of the rheostat that can cause this sort of thing.
A loose connection/ground at the tank unit can also cause that.

Mine does the same thing. I changed the sending unit and it still bounces....Rumor is that it may be a bad resistor on the back of the gauge itself. This is slated to be a winter project for me.
My '81 had a bouncy fuel gauge issue years ago. After discussion with Ken Styer "kstyer" I went ahead and changed out the fuel gauge and the problem was solved in my case.
The fuel gauge is designed to act like a damper. Otherwise it would bounce around constantly as the fuel sloshes around the tank.
So it's one of two things. Good luck!
