Ok all, here's a problem for you. Hope someone can help. This is on an '82 with an electronic radio. The second number on the radio display does not always work. When the second number display does not work, the oil presure, oil temp, and engine temp gauges also do not work. When the second number display does work, all the gauges work also. Hum...any ideas? Thanks |headscratch|

Do you mean part of the display works, and part does not? Or the radio display comes and goes at the same time the other gauges operate?

I would check for a common power supply or ground. It has to be one of the two.

Thanks for the response...Only part of the display works. The first and third digit work all of the time. The second digit normally does not work (is not lit up) so you can't tell what the second digit of the time or the radio station is. At the same time as a non working second digit, the left side of the gauges also do not work (oil pres, oil temp, and engine temp). When the second digit does work all the gauges work also. Very strange. I thought of a power or ground problem, but find it strange that only the second digit of the radio display and the left side of the gauge pack is affected. Does anyone know if the two systems are wired together, or is this just some freek deal. Anyone have any ideas?

The only thing that ties them together is the power, ground, and dash lights.

What's really strange is only part of the display comes and goes, and at the same time. By best guess is that the voltage is dropping low, causing the display to cut out. All the displays should operate together, so a voltage variation makes sense.

That volt loss would also mess with the gauges. I have to go back to a power poor connection, or poor ground that is common to those components.

Sounds logical to me. I'll have to take it apart and see what gives. Thanks for your input
