Does the center gauge cluster need to be hooked up in order for the radio to turn on?

No, You do not have to have all the gagues hooked up in order to have the radio working. They are seperate circuits. You just need power to the radio and a ground. darn !! I cannot spell worth a darn so had to edit this post twice !!!
