I am having a multitude of problems that i need help with. My taillights are dim, I have no brake lights, my interior gauge lights are spoadic ( I am replacing Switch today), when I step on the brakes my gas gauge and volt meter (drawing a blank on proper name) die off but when i start the car my volt meter reads +40 and then dies back to 0. I believe the light issue are a ground but i cannot find the straps. Any suggestions would be great.

There are electrical grounds literally everywhere on these cars. Each and every system will have it's own ground, some more than one.
The tail/brake light grounds are on the rear bumper support, and/or on the driver side frame rail at the rear.
The gauges are also separately grounded thru the circuit board, and several grounds in/around the radio mount behind the cluster.
The main ground from the battery is just under the driver seat, to the chassis. Then, there is a large cable from the frame, to the passenger side engine mount area.
Check thse first, and see that they are clean and tight.

Good info, have a ground short here also. Just got a schematic of my 73 and need to do some digging. The previous owner just let a 2 amp trickle charger instead of disconnecting battery.
