I have never heard a stupid question, but not being an ace mechanic, here goes.
Does the guage console have anything to do with how the engine, and electrical system operates, beside's giving information that is needed ?
Reason is, I took all guages out and re-did the clock, and put all in new bezel. Engine running fine.
I backed the (79 L-82), in the garage last week, started to work on the shift console, stopped, and left it alone for 2 days.
After 2 days, I came out, started it up, the engine has a miss. It had been running great, even with the guages out.
Does the PC piece in the back, and engine lights, etc., have anything to do with the engine missing/running ?
I do not think so, since it had been running fine without them. Did something happen in the meantime?
Temp, vacuum lines, fuel filter, etc., all fine.
I am headed to Corvette Performance in Pompano Beach tomorrow morning, and just trying to see what I could have done, if anything. Probably carb problems.
Kyster and a couple of others have advised me about the choke pulldown, etc., and it is fine.
Thanks
Boatman

The gauges don't affect the engine running, except if the tach wire is shorted. And due to the buffer, it may or may not even then. All of the gauges don't actually attech to any thing that affect the engine operation. They just monitior the operation. You could take all of the sensors out and plug the holes and the car would run the same.
This is not true starting in 1981. This is when computer control started. Some of the sensors were very important. Still, the gauges did not affect the engine.

Thanks, Ken. I am going to the south Florida C-3 expert tomorrow. After the diagnosis, and fix, I hope, I will be back on here with the answer.
