Several of the members have done this...I've seen the pics! Don't know if any of them are still active, tho...
Jim(makovai) did this on his screamer...he shows to still be "active", but he hasn't posted in a couple of years. You can check out his stuff HERE.Adams' Apple 2007-04-14 19:06:36

Anyone know of a 100+ oil pressure guage that fits and looks close to original for a 79?

I had digital gauges in my 76 when I bought the car. I was not all too pleased with them. They are hard to see in the daytime and aren't very accurate. I was idiling at -200 rpm??? The fuel gauge was all over the place and I ran out of gas with the gauge reading 4 gallons. But they shor do look good at night if you don't mind the inacuracy of them. I removed them and replaced them with regular analog/mechanical gauges. I wound up doing a complete electo ectomy after finding Bubbas handy work. What a freekin nighmare!!! Splice upon splice going somewhere ,going nowhere.double and triple splices.aaaaarrrrrggggg. I took the dash off WOAH!! I cleaned up the mess in the engine bay. Underneath the car the wire to the starter was dry as a bone. I was a ticking fire bomb with the fuse lit! I am still finding Bubbas handy work and eliminating it as I find it.I am leaving no stone unturned. Cause I value my life and my Vettes's life.

sounds like a nightmare to me too. just kind of wondering how much of
the inaccurasy was caused by the electrician(?) that did the work.
great point though about reading them in the daytime as in my 90 the
heat and a/c panel is kind of hard to read. thanks for your insight.

Call me old fashioned, but I like the analog gauges.

the only digital things in 90 is the speedometer, odometer and info
panel and a/c heat control. oil, temp, etc. is anaolog. it's the orange
background with blak numbers that really don't show well on a/c panel
as it is in the console out in the open. i can read it if i put on my
glasses but then have trouble driving
.
in my escalade the letters are green on black background and are clear
as a whistle. but with all the inaccurate readings stated above i will
stick to the analog too.

I replaced my Gauges with digital 2 yrs ago. The only thing that doesn't work is the speedo which I don't care about because of the GPS radar detector. All the gauges are dead on fuel is in % & accurate to 1/2 gallon. Water temp & oil temp are accurate to a few degrees. Oil pressure dead on. RPM right on in 100 rpm sectrors. The speedo is probably a sensor or pickup in the trans (TKO-600) that's bad. I installed blue led gauges which are hard to read in sunlight with the top down unless you flip the sunglasses up. But blue is the easies to read & it matches the exterior.
