I dont get it it seems one day all is fine and the next wham somethin else wrong. Ok so the otehr day I go out to start the car up and I get some smoke and she dont start. So I knew I had to replace the negative battery cable. So I put the new one on a no issues for a couple of days. I go to take it out tonight and starts fine. I turn on headlights and I get no light. All the park lights work and all interier lights work the headlights raise up but I got no light. Any suggestions?

Sometimes the high beam switch breaks causing no lights. On a lighter note... you could glue some candles in there since the output is about the same. Oh jeeez I said a funny.

I had a similar problem> Turned out to be my main headlight switch. Do you have a wiring diagram? I would prove out the feed side of both switches and make sure you are getting power into them. If you're not, the problem lies somewhere between the switch and the fuse panel.

I had to drive several miles home one night with my foot on the dimmer switch to keep my lights on. Replaced the switch and all was well. Try fiddling with it to see.

OK two things. MAM had a tech bulliten that said check the firewall plug
Is that the black looking plug or what exactly does that look like. I also noticed that the turn signal switch is not functioning properly. meaning that I dont feel it click between high and low beam. its like somethin snapped off or is not right.
The dimmer switch is the one on the colum right(for a 78).

What they are referring to is the harness pass-thru. It is where the main engine harness connects to the fusebox. Look directly under the brake booster, and a little to the fender side, and you'll see the connector. It is held on with a 3/8" bolt(or is it 5/16"?). The connector will come off once the bolt is loosened completely. The bolt will NOT come out of the connector, tho...it is held captive. Then, the connector will also split into two sections, if needed.
I've seen MANY electrical problems caused by corrosion in this connector, so it wouldn't hurt to check it out, IF you don't find the problem elsewhere first.
If you can pull back on the turn sig stalk, and not feel the highbeam switch "click", it's possible the switch is broken, or the plastic rub-block that the turn sig stalk moves to engage the switch(via a wire linkage) has broken/fallen off.
I'll look and see if I can find a decent diagram of the column with the highbeam linkage...it's fairly wierd, and if you're not used to working on them, they can be a little intimidating at first. Kinda like a jigsaw puzzle, really...only verticle, where the dang pieces want to keep falling!
