I've been reading about replacing my stock headlights with something brighter. Halogen lights require a hole new wiring harness at the tune of about $500.00 and that's not including bulbs. Anybody know of a brighter bulb to replace the stock one's or a different Halogen set up that don't cost a arm&leg ? I must be getting cheep in my old age!! Thanks in advance, George

Have a look at this:

It's a convertion kit. If you scrol down, there is also a description in english.
I'm thinking by my self about to improve the light and this could be an option.
Maybe someone has already used something like that.

Perhaps you meant HID(high intensity discharge)? Those do require a different wiring connection and a ballast set-up...and they are kinda pricey.
The link provided above is a perfect in-between solution....replaceable H4 bulbs in a separate housing. H4 bulbs are around $12-$14 each around here.

I found this set on Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevy-5-3-4-Headlights-Halogen-Sylvania-Head-Lamps-Clear-4-Light-System-60-55-/360673035964?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item53f9c9c6bc&vxp=mtr
with conversion plug and play harnesses.

If your headlight are dim, then I suggest that you check the voltage at your headlamps, with high beams on, and with the engine running. Then compare that voltage to what it is at the horn relay. Our stock electrical system routes the high amperage headlight power thru the firewall/fuse connector, then thru the high/low beam foot switch, then thru the headlight switch, then back thru the firewall connector, and then finally to our headlights.
I purchased an easy to install, plug-n-play relay harness system, for about $250, that eliminates all that. Now my headlights get full power and can be upgraded to any high power lighting system without overloading the stock wiring. http://cmc.speeddirect.com/items.asp?Cc=ELEC&Bc=
Another advantage to using a headlight relay system is that it reduces the load, and subsequent voltage drop, trying to pass thru the firewall/fuse connector. This leaves more power to run all the accessories inside the cabin.
