This is my first vette and I am new to all this stuff.
What is the Headlamp indicator in the console for. The owners manual says it's a position indicator. It is lit all the time when my lightsd are on. Is this normal? I find it distracting.
Thanks

Hi and Welcome,
That indicator is only supposed to light when the head lights are A. not fully open or B. not fully closed. Try turning your lights on and get out of the car and gently try to open the lights further. If that does not turn of the indicator, try to turn off the lights and gently push the lights down. Be gentle. If neither option turns off the indicator, it could be a problem with the switch itself or a short in the wiring. Unless you have a wiring diagram and are good with car wiring, it might be better to take it to a shop. Hope that helps. Good luck.

Hey Bill (and also welcome!),
Another possiblilty could be a vacuum leak, or some other problem, in the headlight system. If there is a vacuum leak the headlights may not be getting fully raised and not tripping the "lights up" switch. I know that the indicator light in mine stays lit a little longer if I've pulled the headlights on right after starting up the car versus if it has been running for awhile. So I've either got a problem in my system also or there needs to be abit of vacuum built up before it all works fine.

Hello Bill,
I'm thinking you are not referring to the headlamp warning light, but the fiber optic lamps in the console ahead and behind the shifter? If this is true, then yes, they will be on all the time your lights are on. They are fiber optic runs from the actual lamp housings and are designed to let you know if a lamp is out.
Walt
Never mind, I re-read your original post and I see I was wrong.
That indicator you are talking about should come on while your lights are lit and the headlamp assemblies are raising. Once they are fully raised, that lamp should go out. Someone removed my sensors (I'm told they are very fragile and break or get out of possition easily) so mine never comes on.
And WOOHOO, I finally got my picture to show up.

The switches are easily broken or rusted, and the wire comes off. That was what was wrong with my 69, easy to fix. Don't take out the warning bulb, having the light helps when the headlights dont go up all the way, especially the pass side you cant see while driving. Joe
