Vette(s): Re-acquired 1982 Bright Blue Vette from the guy a sold it to 13 years ago. 1993 40th Anniv. Ruby Convertible- purchased for my wifes 40th birthday-It has Chromed Grand Sport Wheels, Grand Sport Flares and a functional rollbar.
I haven't yet had time to take it in to the mechanic, but....
the headlights on warning buzzer comes on and stays on when the headlights are activated even though the car is running and the ignition switch is in the ON position. All I can do is turn the dimmer down to get it to go off. I suspect there is a problem in the ignition switch itself but I am not sure. Quick fix for an idiot like me or just let the mechanic have at it??

I think that the mechanic just disconnected it. It's been so long ago now I really don't remember and unfortunately I had to sell my 82 last July.

When the gauges go nuts with the lights on , there is a bad ground connection to the printed circuit. This may be at the circuit or elswhere. The gauges are grounding throught the light circiut, and when the circuit is powered up, the ground goes away.
Thanks for all the replies. I took the center console out and the connector just fell out of the back. The copper traces had come loose from the circuit board. I reglued the traces into proper order and alignment reset the connector so it latched into the console and presto, all is back in order. As you mentioned I must have had a bad ground and a feed from the lights was doing the nasty deed. It sure is great to know this forum exists. Now the only thing left to do is to get the factory alarm working - well maybe not - I just might go the more modern route for security purposes.
