Just out of curiosity. Is there a reason for these switches on our headlight assemblies. I know they are designed so a light will come on inside if they are open, which seems kind of ignornant to me. Its fairly obvious whether they are open or not. Are they vital to the operation of the headlights or can they be eliminated? Can the wiring harness be hotwired to elimiate the connection? Can the connector just be clipped and tucked away, or do they need to be clipped and wired together to keep the lights from coming on?
Just curious as I'm doing this electric headlight conversion and I'm trying to eliminate waste and want not.

I wouldn't recommend "clipping" any wires. First, you or someone else may want to return the car to original congiguration, 2nd, maybe more importantly, it leaves a wire unprotected and exposed. If a simple unplug will solve the issue, I'd just tape the end to protect it and use a tie wrap to tuck it out of the way.

They don't have to be removed. They can be "tucked up" out of the way. But, if something doesn't open that circuit, the dash light will still light up.
And that red light on the dash can be #&@*% annoying!!
When I bought my Vette, one of those switches was bad. Drove that car for three hours in the dark with that red light screaming at me!
Simplest solution for the dashlight is to remove the bulb.

The light goes out when the headlights are in the fully locked open position. I had a vacuum problem once and the light wouldn't go out because it was not opening to a locked position. It helped me troubleshoot when my vacuum was ok again.

Yep - when my actuators were failing, my lights were opening slower and slower and sometimes not at all. Eventually they would open up, but the warning light was on telling me that they were not completely open. Once I got moving, they would finally lock and the warning light would go out.
Once I replaced the actuators - man - they pop up so fast again!

I don't mine them being there, I was just concerned if they were not connected that they wouldn't complete a circuit to the headlight switch that would keep them from working at all.

Which conversion are you doing? Saw Chris (69MyWay) McDonald's conversion when at BG last summer and that was really sweet. (http://www.mcspeed.com and click on 'Killer Lights')
