have JC Whitney lamps in my low beams,55-60,work ok. The 80-100 will overload your switch most likely, did mine. I also have a set of Hella's in the highs,55 watts. these work great. The Whitneys are a bit hard to focus, am in the process of contacting Hella about a set of thier lamps.

I was wasting time on eBay and found these lights. They have a little more detail to them.

Are they the same product?

These lines from the eBay link above caught my eye (especially the line I put in boldface):
************
OUR HYPER-WHITE BULBS ARE MADE WITH REAL XENON GAS ! ALONG WITH THE BLUE COLOR,THEY PRODUCE AN ARCTIC WHITE GLOW,SIMILAR TO HID,BUT AT A FRACTION OF THE COST!
* 12V 80W/100W
* Silver capped tips
* Cobalt blue coating
* Real Xenon Gas within bulbs
* White hot 4200K color temperature
************
If I'm reading correctly, aren't these going to cause some "hot wires" on the orginal harness?

Jim,
That is one of the two questions we are trying to get answered. The other is how can two bulbs replace four on the original wiring harness. ( the seller states that a single bulb does both high and low beam ). Seems like the only way to figure this out is to buy a set and try them out. Possibly lower the amperage rating of the headlamp fuse slightly to avoid burning up the harness. I realize the circuit is fused correctly to avoid burning up the harness but that is designed for new wires. I am willing to be that the insullation has deteriorated over the past 30 plus years.
I know that the only way I can see to drive at night where I live is to use the high beams. If these things help, it will be GREAT!!

The headlight switch has its own relay-overload in it. The 80-100's will cause your lights to go off and on when you switch on the Hi beams. When they say both high and low they meen, the low beam headlight. It has two elements in it. On low its usually 55 watts. when you switch on high beams it turns off the 55 and on the60watt element and turns on the high beam bulb at the same time. With a 80/100 your ok with just the low beam bulb on as its only 160 watts total 80 x 2 bulbs When you go to high you have320 watts,100 x2 bulbs and60 x 2 bulbs. This is to much for the headlight switch to usually handle. You need to install a separate relay to provide enough power to run the extra wattage. need any more info e-mail me. Talbot company has Cibie H4 4 3/4" bulbs available for 55.00 each. They seem to have a better pattern than the JCWhitney ones but JC's are only 16.00 each with no bulbs. I am running the H4 55/60's in the low bulbs and 55 watt H1's in the highs.

Carl,
Your info is great! I would like to ask a couple more questions and hopefully you will answer them as part of the forum instead of e-mail. I know nothing about halogen lamps. You say you are using 55 watt H4 on low and 55 watt H1 on high. To me 55 watts is 55 watts so there must be a difference between H1 and H4....could you please explain the difference? And do you need the relay for the set up you have?
Thanks a bunch !!

H1 bulbs are an older standard. Small single element bulbs. Two contacts only like the contacts on the high beam bulbs on 70s vettes. H4 is a current standard similar to the replacement bulbs in the newer cars but no plastic around the contacts. H4s are also double element bulbs. These are 3 prong contacts as are the low beam bulbs. Thw wattage is the same or close to the original type halogen bulbs but the lenses used are usually superior to the sealdbeam type. plus you can carry a spare in the glove box for each light. This setup works fine in my car as the amperage requirement is about the same as stock. Its only when you go higher in either lamp that problems arise. Seems 240 watts total for all four lamps on is safe but higher causes probs.
Don't waste your money. I bought a set of these lights off Ebay. The company was proparts.com or somthing similair. First they sent me the housings with no H4 super white bulbs. Then I had to call them for the bulbs. Finally got the bulbs. Then I go out to the garage, (all excited) take the old bulbs out. I go to put the new housings in, and guess what....they don't fit. I opened up the opening in the headlight bucket, figuring a little modification would work....NOT!!! To make these things fit, I would need a damn hole saw to make a opening in the structure behind the headlight bucket. I'm not butchering my car to make these stupid things fit. I've e-mailed the company for some assistance, and I got nothing from them. I could have wasted $39.99 on something else. Lesson learned: Buyer Beware!

These last two answers certainly made up my mind. Normand, I hope you got your answer also.
Thanks everyone.
