Headlights or Switches

My first time on any forum and I have to ask about Headlights

My problem is I have high beams all the time, I push the switch off on the foor and all lights go out. I have to take the connections from the back of the bulbs and put the highbeams onto the low side and let the wires for the low side hang. Could this be in the dashboard switch?

Ok I need help again changed the floor switch and it didn't change anything. Anybody, Anyone have any suggestions Pleeease

It's not the dash switch if you have high beams. Power goes from the dash on/off switch to the floor switch(hi/low) from their to either the low beams or the high beams. Sound like you have a bad hi/low switch. It's very easy to replace just pull the carpet back disconnect the connector unbolt the switch & install new.

I agree with Alan. I had the same symptom with my 75. Problem was the dimmer switch. Mine was a very easy fix.

AHH the good old days when the dimmer switch was on the floor and a snap to change,I'd love to know why some YAHOO ever decided to stick it inside of the steering column

Thanks for the feedback its one of those hair pulling electrial problems that dosen't seem so hard after someone tells you the answer.

I think for not disturbing others cars with your high beams the reaction time to your hands is quicker than to your feet seen the distance that electric impulse must travel ....

Actually they started putting them in the column copying some of the European cars.  They did it first.  WHY? well..... okay I don't know, but that's where it came from.

You'll have to check the voltage at the switch & go from there. 12+ comes out of the headlight switch & goes to the floor hi/low beam switch. From there it goes to the high beam or low beams. You might have a open low beam wire between the flr switch & the wire going from the low beam bulbs. On your floor switch check the voltage each time you push the switch the 12+ should change each time you push the switch. If you have power there it's a wiring problem. Those wire can break...they did on mine right next to the firewall.
