Howdy jjvette!Hope I can help ya out. |grin| I have been noticing on eBay a heater control assembly unit that is NOS offered by a couple different folks for around 100 clams or "buy it now for like $105" or something like that. I also have seen this unit in the newest Mid America catalog, but for like $179. My suggesttion for a fast find on eBay is: in SEARCH type in "1982 corvette" or "82 corvette". you'll have to go thru some items but it should be a fairly easy find. If I run across it myself again, I'll send ya the exact action #'s so ya can go right to it! Goin' on a cruuuisse today with the Club so won't have time until tonight. |sommersalt| Yak with ya later.

Hi again Johny. I found an auction on eBay that has 5+ days left(as of 3/25/02) for this unit you're lookin' for. |biggrin| Go to eBay at get to "search". You can either type in the sellers user ID "parts4corvettes" or the actual auction #1815623924. Like I said it's open bid is $100 or "Buy it Now" for $105. Since I think this a discontinued unit form Delco, this is about the best I think you can do...for NEW. Good Luck!

JJ -- are you sure you need to replace the unit? Are you certain your heat/cool problems are the result of a bad control and not something else? You can find used units at swap meets and you can buy new units from the aftermarket providers. I recommend you purchase the assembly instruction manual (AIM) for your year. It lists drawings and parts numbers for everything on your Corvette.

I bought a unit form this person and it came with a new cable too. If you still have the old cable it will have to be changed out as the new controler is set up for the new cable. I figured at 105 that it was a good deal I haven't seen any cheaper in the mags. I new mine was shot when i took it apart and the vacuum part was leaking bad and was not switching over from defrost to heat ...... It's not to bad to replace. you also have a vacuum operated hot water shut off valve behind the glove box on an 80 any ways. if the heat is not shuting off i would look here first it's easy to adjust. You can also buy rebuild kits for these units too. mine was gone the levers had no detent any more. so it would just slide around , and I had to guess where the detent was.
well enough rambling good luck.

Hi Johny,
First of all, all the control assemblies I've seen have been pretty expensive. I've seen them on ebay and ecklers. Taking it out isn't bad at all. I just did it a few weeks ago when I took mine out to repaint and put a new clear lens on it. I just took off the console sides, unplugged the connections to the defroster switch (that's just to make for more room), the connection to the fan speed lever, and then another connection on the front of the assembly, then there are I believe three hex head screws that hold the assembly to the console plate. After you remove them you should be able to pull it out towards the passenger side and unscrew the piece that has all the tubes going into it. By this time there should be one more thing connected to it, a thin cable with a cylinder looking piece that fits into a slot. You need to first pop the plastic piece that holds the cable in place on the end of the assembly, then rotate the cable 90deg and the cable and cylinder piece should pop right out. May sound kind of confusing because I didn't explain to well, but seriously, it was not a tough job at all. If you have any questions let me know... I can probably send an assembly drawing if you need one as well.

Vette(s): 1979 Black coupe. 11256 original, documented, miles on it when I bought it in April of 2000. It now has 13100 on it. Oyster interior, like new. Everything original, everything works, except the clock. Paint has a couple of minor flaws.
Sometimes you can go to your neighborhood Chevrolet dealer, and order some parts, and they will be cheaper than any of the parts catalogs. You notice, I said sometimes.. I usually always check with them first, and if they cant get the part, I go elseware. I recently bought a speedometer cable from Chevrolet, and it was several dollars cheaper than the parts house.
