Hi All,
Yesterday my Power Windows died for no apparent reason.
Both windows do not work from the switch. If I apply power to the motors they work OK. It seems either I have lost Power or a Common ground. I apply power and they work, which leads me to believe that groundis good. Sound right? The schematics I have are really useless, they have no detail and don't tell how the power gets to the motor or where it comes from. Does anyone have any experience with tracing this out. I would really appreciate the help.

I have checked all the fuses, there are no fuses marked for the windows. I found a reference in my manual that says it shares the fuse with the radio. Doesn't sound right, but that fuse is good.

If you have checked all the fuses and they are all good, I would check the switches, then look for grounds in the wiring near the switches. It gets hot in the tunnel, so maybe something has deteriorated over time and shorted out. You know it's not the motors, so start at the switches and work your way out.

If it is the switches, it is odd they both stopped at the same time. But, the switches are kind of flimsy and I had to play with how the wires plug in to them for mine to work. I guess you will have to trace the wires with a voltmeter or test light to see where the failure is.
BTW, it is not unusual for a fuse to look good and still not allow current to pass. Them might even read 12v on a voltmeter, but not give any juice at all. Joe
