Hello there!

Has anyone ever removed the connectors at the steering column?  I am tryng to change out the pedal assembly from auto to manual, have the steering column ready to come out, but I FEAR breaking the last two connectors.Cry

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  They have apparently never been removed and are tough to work with.

Thanks in advance!

All I can offer is to pull the retaining clips, and work/wiggle the connectors back & forth. They will eventually come apart.

Joel:

When you say retaining clips are you talking about the metal components that actually bolt to the column?

Thanks,

Rick

Are they pretty durable also?  Because these are the ignition wiring etc.

I am also trying to get that black 15 pin looking dude apart and it has different clip points, on the sides and top.

The connectors have plastic retainers that keep them from becoming dis-connected. You usually just push down, or lift up on them while pulling the connector apart to get them released. I don't have a pic right now, but I might could find one somewhere.
Those connectors/retainers are normally fairly pliable, so I've never seen one actually break.

10-4, I have removed hundreds of them but these dudes don't want to give.  They are also bolted to the column with (1) screw and (1) nut, which appears to be dimmer swith that says not to loosen the screw according to the GM Shop Manual.

Thanks for your reply
