I have a 77 corvette. The headlights work fine but the high beams will not turn on. The switch that controls the high beams, wiper etc is almost gone so I am pretty sure that it is the problem beacuse it does not click when i pull it towards me to turn on the high beams. Rather than pull the wheel apart  I was looking for a way to put a switch in just to pass inspection and worry about it later. I have found a 4 wire harness that comes out from under the wheel. There is a plug in the middle that connects the wire from the wheel other follows up under the dash. I was wondering if this is the harness that comes from the highbeam/ wiper switch. the plug has an A B C D on it above each wire. if this is the right wires can a simple toggle switch be placed in the middle of the wire to turn on the high beams and if so what letter is the one going to the high beams.

Thanks,

Kris

The actual dimmer switch is not up in the column, by the steering wheel...it's down at the lower end of the column. The turn sig/wiper/dimmer lever only moves a rod that goes down in the column to the switch. It should be located on the top of the column housing, near the ignition switch. Not that hard to replace...if you are made of rubber, or are a contortionist! I think there was a thread on this a while back, and there may have even been a pic posted, but I can't remember...
