Can anyone give me some suggestions on my horn problem? Horn blows when hooked up to direct power source by jumpers. Changed horn relay switch and installed horn contact kit. Horn still won't blow when horn button is depressed. Any clues to whats wrong? 1978 w/ tilt. Thanks for any help anyone can give.

Did you get down to the lower horn contact in the column? If not, that may be gummed up.
I had my column rebuilt last month. Besides replacing some broken parts up top in the column, the lower contact was gummed up. All it required was a cleaning. They did a continuity check at the wire harness connector on the column to ensure that the horn button was making contact.

So you may want to check continuity on the steering column side. If it checks out ok, then you will have to start chasing wires on the vehicle harness side.

I'd bet Darryl is right Thumbs%20Up My horn on my 78 Pace Car wasn't working and I took it apart and cleaned it up but put it back together wrong and had to have C&HP in Olympia redo it but it worked fine after that.

I learned an important lesson, take pictures of stuff before and during disassembly LOL

Kenny78, check the small contact spring in the column? Its a small spring that looks like a spring out of a ink pen. Thats what I found was my problem. Thanks

Have you checked the fuse?
The horn button provides a ground for the relay, so there needs to be power at the contact on the button. Check the button wire, the one with the small spring/plastic barrel clip for voltage. If there is no voltage there, the relay won't close when you press the button, and the horn won't toot.

Listen if the relay clicks when you tap the horn button.  If it does, your problem is either the relay or wiring to the horn.  If it does not click, start working backwards to the horn button.  Remember that the horn button is a switch to ground to complete the circuit, so every place up to the horn button is always hot.

Good luck
Larry

Just rebuilt mine and found I had a problem with the large spring that works the telescope. This spring also makes contact for the horn. If you have telescoping wheel try pushing your wheel in and trying the horn.
