I'm having problems with getting my horn to work via the horn button on the steering wheel.  Here's where I stand. I have a 1972 that I purchased in feb this year.  I gutted about 90% of the interior, which includes changing the steering cloumn from non tilt to a tilt/tele steering column.  When we completed the install of the column and connected all wire harnesses everything worked except the horn.  I changed the horn relay that is located under-hood on the driver side. Still nothing.  I ran a wire from the battery to the horn to see if the horn is dead and the horn worked.  Everything is new related to the horn on the steering wheel.  It just won't work.   My problem is I can't get the car inspected without the horn working.  Any ideas would be appreciated.  Thanks.

You'll need to pop the horn button off and short the connections under it together and see if it works.  If it does it's probably just an adjustment required on the button.  If not you will have to pull the column assy apart and find the problem which will most likely be the brush which contacts the rotating ring within the assy.

Thanks for your help.  I did short it and nothing worked.  Do I need to pull out the column from the car to do this work or can it be done while still in the car?

Try looking at these an make sure you have it put together correctly:

I fought this demon myself and it was a wire on top of the turn signal switch broken.  Jim Shea has a lot of docs on the steering on www.corvettefaq.com
