I'm not much on elec. but on the chance you fried yours, don't pay high prices for one from a vette supplier. I got one for my 68 from Auto Zone. It was under 50 bucks!

It should not be hot. If you disconnect the motor wiring see if it cools off. If not the heat is coming from somewhere else. If the motor cools off, then it's electrical inside the motor. It should not have any power with the key off, so when installing the dist was the key off? If it was off you need to find out where power is comming from. Either way, does the wiper motor operate? It could have been turned on and the linkage binding causing the heat. If the linkage is okay and it won't run, but has power, check check for a poor ground from the motor. A bad connection at the feed or ground will create a lot of heat without the motor running. If all of these check out, replace the motor.

You will have one wire hot at all times the key is on. This is so the park position will operate. Turn the switch to high and you will have an additional hot wire. Turn on low and the high will stay on, and the low wire will also come on. The last wire is the ground, this may be a strap. If all of these check out, you have a bad wiper motor, or something is binding the motor.
If you have delay wires there are a few more, but the others still remain the same.
You have two more wires going to the cover for the washers, One is hot with the key on and the other is grounded when you push the washer switch.
