How does the parking brake switch work on my 74? I was having trouble with the brake light on all the time. I took the center consel off to check out the switch. Wiggled it around and cleaned it, and it started working OK. Can't tell how it works? It doesn't seem to be a mechanical switch. Beats the heck out of me???? THANKS steve

It's just a little "plunger" type contact switch, similar to the ones in the door pillars for the courtesy lights. It has 12v on one side when open, and both sides when closed. With the brake handle down, the switch opens, and makes no contact. When you pull the handle up, the switch closes, and makes contact. All this switch does is turn the light on in the cluster, and works with the seatbelt warning buzzer.

Thanks Joel, I checked it out and found the copper strip on the switch. It was on the bottom where I couldn't see it. Now I see how it works....real simple.......Thanks steve
