I cant figure out what this part on the side of my wiper motor is.. it was taken apart when i bought the car and seems to be missing a part, I have a wiring harness for it.. but it wasnt hooked up to anything and I dont know what it is..

it looks like some kind of solenoid valve... but none of the diagrams I have show its existence..

I dont know if this is even the right part for the car...

here are three pics of the item...

any help would be appreciated..

I think it's the solenoid for the headlight washers. Can't tell you much more then that, looks like it would be the same 69-72 if you can come up with a manual. Edit: whoops, I just realized with the front end modifications your car has the headlight washers are probably long gone.

It looks like either a solenoid or a pressure switch. But, it's wired into (what should be) the washer pump terminals. C3 washer pumps are externally powered (engaged) by a shared lead from the wiper motor. The unit in the photo is (EDIT: appears) internally powered.

Can you find part numbers on anything there?

John

there is a part number on this solenoid 4919549

in fact you can see it in the last picture..

these two wires do run to the wiper motor but there is also a plug that connects to it also

my theory was that it was a switched valve for the headlight washers or something like that

but i dont have any idea how it activates

also does any one have a diagram for hooking up washer hoses on a 69

and I do still have headlight washers..

I have removed all vacuum and washers hose (not that many were hooked up in the first place). so that I can start over and get them right..

Doc Rebuild has a diagram on page 64 of his catalog.

I was just digging into the factory wiring diagram for a 71. Oldest one I have at the moment. It does not show it at all. I hate say it, but I'm puzzled. I will dig through some more old manuals I have in the basement, and see what I can find. I remember seeing something similar on another GM, but memory fails at the moment.

what years were headlight washers available..

they are an option in the 69 sales brochure..

is this something that might have been a one or two year item... perhaps gone by 71

I got the impression they were standard equipment 69-72. 69 was for sure the first year they were available, I could be wrong about standard equipment, but I can't find an RPO code for them which makes me believe they were standard.

I recall reading that '71 was the last year for them. I can assure you that they do not show up in the '72 AIM - neither in standard production nor in the option sheets.

EDIT: from the corvette shop manual:
"The headlamp washer system only operates with the headlamps turned on and the windshield washer button held in the depressed position. A solenoid mounted to the wiper motor diverts washer fluid through hoses to the (headlamp) nozzles."

still hunting data

John

Lumberjack, you are correct. 71 was the last year and 69 was the first. My mistake, sorry to have mis-lead you guys.
