hello, i have a 79 vette. I don't know how to turn on what to do to get the lights on the gauges to work. I've changed all the center consel lights. The low fuel and low battery lights do come on though. How do i get the rest to light up? any help would be greatly aprechiated.

Have you tried turning the headlight knob? it controls the brightness of the dash lights, also check the fuse. If the fuse is good, you might want to check to see if you are geting power to the lights, if no power then it's probably the head light switch. I just replaced mine because the lights wouldn't come on. When I took the switch out the part of the switch that controls the brightness was shot. Works fine now.
let us know how you made out.

yes I've tried that first, I thought it should work just like any other car. When I turn it all the way anti-clock wise the interoir lights come on. I know that the center pannel is getting power since the low gas and batt lights come up.The pop up lights also come up. How would I be able to check to see if my switch is messed up? THanks for helping me out eh!

One thing you might want to try to do first. Pull the rod out to the "on" position and spray WD-40 down the shaft. It will do down to the rheostadt which might be bad. This is what controls the brightness of the lights(on the dash). If you want to test it, you have to find, via a wiring diagram, which wire controls the guage lights and hook up a test light. Otherwise, I would recommend changing the light switch. Make sure all of your grounds are good too.

ok, I tried the wd-40, and that didn't work. I ended up taking my dash out since it was much easer to work with. Founf out that i was missing some light bezels on the back of the instrument panel. I just grabed some out of the center consel. Do I need all the light bezels to get it to work? It there anyway to figure out witch wires controll the voltage for the lights so I can test out the light switch asm. Thank-you for your help!

If you mean buld sockets, no you don't need all of them in for it to work Are you sure your ground is OK for the guage panel? I'll have to look in my Shop Manual for the wires that control the dash lights.
OK according to my manual, for my 82 the guage panel is powered by a dark green wire, check voltage there. Also don't forget about the fuse. make sure your printed circuit on the back of the guage pack doesn't have any breaks in it. I'm not sure what wirs will be for a 79 but I would assume it is still the dark green one.
