My '71 had "catastrophic key failure" today. Went to start her & the key decided to just spin in the tele/tilt steering column. No power, no nothing. I think my cable has snapped. I have a mechanic that I trust to fix it but my problem is getting it to him. My questions are: 1) has anyone replaced this cable themselves & would you ever do it again? 2) any suggestions on "hot-wiring" the car so I can take it on the 20 minute drive to my mechanic and thereby avoid the headache of a flatbed? Just another unexpected challenge from a 32-year-old toy!

hot wiring is easy on the old cars! just ..... block. You'll get a big spark, but it'll turn over. Joe

Probably a good idea. BTW, does the steering wheel turn or is it locked? Joe
