When I turn the key the guages jump to life, the initial power surge but it won't turn over.  Only way to start is to jump the starter.  Crate motor installed, ecm disconnected.  I've been lazy trying to track the problem down, lazy may be to critical since I don't know where to start and I don't want to screw around with electrical without getting some help/advice.

Thanks, Dave

Dave, check to purple wire at the starter solenoid for 12v while turning the key to "Start". You must have 12v there for the starter to engage.
If you do not, you'll need to check the Neutral safety switch on an automatic, or the clutch safety switch on a standard. Start with the check at the starter, and work your way back...starter, NSS, ignition switch.

Will do Joel, and thanks.  Now that you mention the nuetral safety switch, I remember having that problem in a 79 Z28 I use to own.
