Hello everyone! I am having issues attempting to install a MSD mini starter on my '71 Vette. It is a nom 350 and when I installed the starter the bolt closet to the block is too long...in other words after I tighten all the way a 1/4 inch space is left. Also the starter is angled to the flywheel. The original starters bolts were staggered and the MSD's bolt line is straight across. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You have the wrong bolt, and the wrong starter.
Being mini, you often also need shorter than original bolts.
And some designs are straight, some are staggered. You must replace it with the same kind/design. You probably have the wrong starter. The angle will not work.

When I bought it it stated it was for a 153 or 168 tooth fly wheel and a pre 87 small block. I checked on the Summit website and it stated it was for my application. Any other suggestions. Thanks.

It may be the right part number on the box, but the starter is probably the wrong one for your automatic. "Pre-87 small block" covers a LOT of territory! I know of at least 4-5 different starter noses for small blocks, angle bolt and straight...
I'd give Summit a call, and see what their tech guy says...
