Hey guys, I feel like sucha retard. My dad yelled at me becuase I think I got the wrong distributor. I seen a lot of C3 Vette people using it on the internet. And I thought ou could use it as an HEI distrib witht he blaster SS coil. I got the MSD pro billet ready to run distributor:
Here is the auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7941624720

Can I use this with my old HEI system?

Thanks guys

No, you can't use it with your HEI. It replaces your HEI, and I see no reason it won't work just fine. You will need to buy a coil also. The HEI has the coil in the cap, and the unit you bought does not have a coil. Just get a coil to go along with the dist you bought and you are in business.

You might want to consider adding the multi strike spark box,and the monel spriral core plug wires, talk to the seller, maybe he will give you a deal on the box and wires

Ha-ha, I got the Blaster SS coil. I felt all retarted when my dad said what the hell is wrong with you? Its the wrong one. After my own research I decided to buy it b/c I thought that if I bought the coil that the distrib would work. But I don't think my dad knows. I'm going to need to let him know.

ok the difference between an MSD pro billet and pro billet ready to run is this..

a regular msd like my model 8572 REQUIRES an ignition controller box.

the distributor sends a signal to this box which triggers the coil.. the main purpose of this is to achieve capacitive ignition instead of inductive ignition.

the ready to run model that you have doesnt require this ignition controller. it only requires a coil.

the coil just doenst happen to be mounted on top of it like with a plain jane chevy hei distributor.

the blaster ss is a good coil.. the only bad thing is that you have to find a place to mount it. i mounted mine on the fender well under the passenger fender.. but quite a few of us here have good taste and bought these units and im sure we all have different mounting locations.

tell youre dad to quit yelling.. hes wrong..

Hmmm, then it is a Inductive electronic setup, MSD makes a dist that won't accept their CD box? I was told I can use a MSD CD box on my HEI, what gives?
