I have a 1975 car with a problem and I sure could use some help. While trying to restore the car I discovered that it will start in any gear, not good. The car is automatic. I took off the plate over the neutral safety switch and saw a wire snipped off of the switch. I reconnected the wires to see what would happen. I started the car and moved the shift handle through the gears and when it hit neutral the starter sounded like it was trying to engage. I am far from an electrical ace and sure could use some advice. Thanks, Darrell

If you simply put the shifter in neutral, and turn the key on, does it crank by itself? That's no good! Sounds like it's time for a new NSS(neutral safety switch).
What color is the wire that was cut? If it is purple, you may have other problems, too...someone may have butchered the harness to bypass the NSS.
