Richard, the NNS really shouldn't be getting hot, except as a byproduct of driving, and the heat from the tunnel is getting it warm. If it sat for a day, and you tried to start it and it got hot then, there is a problem, either with the switch itself, or in the circuit to the starter. You may need a new switch...
The thing you describe as a condensor is probably the flasher for the alarm system. If it is round, maybe 1/2"-3/4" diameter, about 1" long(maybe 1 1/2") and has three terminals on one end, that's what it is. If it is some other size, we may need a pic...

if the NNS get hot just after starting your car there is something wrong.. but i can imagine after driving for a bit the heat of the engine/exhaust warms up the NNS and surrounding area.
