I think I might be getting a new wiring harness. Anyone have a good idea about how much that should cost - with installation from a good corvette specialty shop?

I puchased my 72 vert around 2 months ago. And have been slowly going though things.
I noticed the hazard flashers weren't working, so I decided to test by switching the turn signals flasher relay with the hazards flasher relay.
Well, the hazards started working, and the turn signals worked intermitantly.
I then proceeded to head up to the local parts shop to get a new flasher relay - got about a mile and a half and smelled something burning. Smoke coming up from under the dash! Luckily no fire, some singed wiring, and the hood release cable was melted!
My local shop said that what happens sometimes is that over time wires rub up against the hood release and chaif, and that combined with an unground hot wire...
So, it may not have had anything to do with the flashers, other than mucking around, and maybe knocking something.
Anybody else run into something like this?
Thanks,
Matt

As we all know those wires are all full of smoke, and when the smoke get's out you can have some real problems.
I replaced all the wiring in my 72. I bought everything from "Lectric Limited". I would recommend getting your harnesses from them and also get the wiring diagrams from Doc Rebuild. They are laminated and you can take 'em out in the garage with you. If you take your time it is something you can do yourself.

A main dash harness will run about $500. ZIP Products shown, but all the aftermarket vendors carry the harnesses. Lectric Limited makes most of them. You can expect labor to be higher than the cost of the harness.
I suspect your harness and/or the dash has been removed at some point by a previous owner. The harness is wire wrapped to the rear of the instrument panel to keep it out of the way and off of the hood release cable and other stuff up under the dash. If in the proper position, it should not have rubbed against anything. Just the same, if the harness is original, it's 36 years old.

Lectric Limited is the best source for wiring harnesses, in my opinion. That is where we get all of ours. They also make the laminated wiring diagrams. We get all of our electrical parts from them.
Their current price for a main dash harness is $499.99, plus shipping, and $12.00 for the wiring diagram. When we sell a Lectric Limited harness, we throw in the diagram for free.

If you want to replace your wiring harness you can get them from tld corvette . You get the lectic limited harness cheaper from them than from lectric limited.
